I went with Marty shopping this weekend.  We had a really good time.  We first went to the mall and ended up eating at Red Lobster.  I was very happy to finally have some spending money of my own.  I have done a lot of babysitting, but I have also saved a lot of my money.  My Dad helped me open my first bank account, and has been diligent in making sure I understand how having a checking account works.  Marty says working at the indoor golf center helps her learn how hard it must be for parents too.  They work really hard and try to give their kids things they want besides things they need.  She already has a bank account.  She knows how to balance it and everything.  She keeps close eye on her money.  Dad wants me to do the same.  I am getting a head start on a lot of my friends, who always get what they want from their parents.  Mom says it is important to earn your own money so you will know that you have to work for what you get, and also that you shouldn’t be frivolous with money.  She stresses saving all you can.
